New Things to Love in 2020

Uncategorized Feb 14, 2020

Happy Valentine’s Day! I was all set to give today’s post a different title when I realized that it will actually go out to you on February 14th. So I wanted to find a way to work Valentine’s Day into the mix. And actually, it works really well because what I was intending to write about was how much I LOVE the direction I am starting to take things this year with Great Resources for Coaches. Okay, I’ll admit there is nothing all that romantic about the kind of love that I am talking about. But I have a whole lot of passion for the things you will hear about, so I guess in some strange way it is a fitting message for today.

If you didn’t watch my video on Wednesday, let me update you today on what is happening. In that video I said that I am going to be making some changes to my schedule with regards to these posts on Fridays and those videos on Wednesdays. Basically, I am just not going to be on such a tight schedule with them anymore.

There are a few reasons for the changes. The biggest reason is that I have so many other projects that I am working on this year that I want to devote my undivided attention to those.

Okay, right there, I need to issue a disclaimer. In the video, I talked about how poorly I do anything with an “undivided attention.” I talked about the book The One Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan talking about how we need to focus on one thing, one project, one whatever it is that we do at a time.

In my video I talked about how much I have tried to focus on “one thing” in my own life, and it just hasn’t worked for me. I am not saying I’m a multi-tasker. But I am saying that I do not just focus on one project at a time. I always have a variety of “irons in the fire,” and that’s the way I have always liked it.

Because of that, though, I will not be putting out a video every Wednesday and a written post every Friday. While I will still do videos and posts, I will not be as consistent with them as I have been over the last few years. I will do them when they seem fitting and appropriate.

The reason why I need to do this is because I have a variety of other projects that I am focusing my attention on. Here is a list of just some of the different projects that I am working on and loving.

Your Coaching Journey 8-Week Program - The thing that has been getting my attention since the 1st of the year has been the Your Coaching Journey 8-week course and program in my new Fast Track Lab for New Coaches. I have thoroughly enjoyed bringing over 25 video lessons, 1-on 1 phone calls, and a variety of PDF’s to the people in that program over the last 7 weeks.

I have also received some great feedback from some of the people in the program on what they are getting out of the course and on some things to do with it in the future. The program ends in a couple of weeks. After it finishes and I get more feedback from people, I will be re-recording a lot of the lessons for the next go-round of the course that will be out in the summer. Stay tuned for when it launches again.

Fast Track Lab for New Coaches Membership Site - The project I am most excited about getting going is my new Fast Track Lab for New Coaches Membership Site. This is where a good majority of my time will be directed in the coming months. We will be opening up registration for it in the next couple of weeks, and then the membership site will begin on March 2nd.

While the membership site is designed to help NEW coaches jumpstart their learning curves and prepare them for the road ahead, it is open to anyone looking to improve herself or himself as a coach. It’s just that the focus is on helping those coaches who are new to the profession or new to a position or new to a program or new in any other way get the knowledge and development necessary to succeed and thrive in their endeavors.

You will definitely want to check out the membership site when it launches in a couple of weeks. I will have a special offer going for all of you who are interested in joining the first iteration of it.

Fast Track Lab for New Coaches Facebook Groups I have two free Facebook groups in support of the Fast Track Lab for New Coaches. One is open to anyone who is interested in the various things we post and discuss in there. The other one is a private group just for members of the Fast Track Lab for New Coaches Membership Site and Courses. I will be doing more with both of them in the coming months. Click here if you are interested in joining the one that is open to the public.

Great Quotes for Coaches Podcast - I have also been recording some short podcast episodes of Great Quotes for Coaches over the last couple of weeks. I released the first three episodes in the Your Coaching Journey program. These are short (5 to 10-minute) episodes with each one focused on a specific quote that has been helpful in my coaching, teaching, and leadership career and that can help coaches and teams in the same way. Eventually, that podcast will go out to the world, but for now, I am keeping it in the Fast Track Lab for those of you who join the membership site.

Building Your Coaching Staff Chemistry Course For the last couple of years, I have had a workshop that I do at schools and leagues called Building Your Coaching Staff Chemistry. It is designed to help coaches and athletic directors build positive, working relationships with their staffs to maximize their chances for success. I will be taking that workshop and the eBook of it and creating another online course. That will be coming out later in the summer.

Two New Fiction Books I have wanted to write fiction for a long time. However, I spent the first fifteen years of my writing career writing nonfiction coaching books and a couple of gift books for athletes. Over the last year, though, I have written two fiction books. They are still focused on the athletic world and on teaching the same kinds of lessons that my nonfiction books, presentations, blog posts, videos, and everything else I do teaches. However, these fiction books do that in story format. They are written for coaches, athletes, and parents. I am finishing up my editing for the first one, and I will probably start editing the second one in a month. For those of you who get into the membership site, I will be releasing chapters of them in there for you to read and to offer feedback on prior to me publishing them for the rest of the world.

EZ Essay-Writing Membership Site This project is something I am SO excited to get going this year. While it is not in the coaching/athletic realm, it is in the realm that I miss so much from the first half of my career – teaching English. I miss the daily interaction with my students. I miss those “light-bulb” moments when they understood something that they hadn’t understood before. I miss helping them become better writers, writers that could go into any other class and crush it on whatever assignment they had.

Last year I was able to teach English to six eighth-graders. I had an absolute blast, and I knew right then, I needed to somehow get back into teaching English in some fashion. While my present life circumstance of taking care of my father-in-law with Alzheimer’s doesn’t allow me to be away from the house teaching at a school, it doesn’t mean I can’t teach. Once again, through the magic of the online world, I will be offering a membership site and courses to students who want to improve their writing skills. But I will be offering so much more than just that.

While the program is still in its infancy in terms of development, I am already putting together some amazing resources to help middle school and high school students become excellent essay writers, as well as improving in the overall communication and language arts skills. I can’t wait to get this going later this year! (If you know of anyone who could benefit from such a program, let them know about my plan, and get them in touch with me.)

I also have a couple of other ideas for projects that keep simmering in my brain, waiting for the right moment to boil up to the surface and say, “Okay, time for you to give me a try!” More on those later this year if/when they start boiling.

On top of all of that, I still run my Great Resources for Coaches site, still sell my books on the site and on Amazon, and still speak on character-based coaching/athletic topics with Proactive Coaching. In other words, I have a variety of things that I devote a lot of time to that aren’t going away.

Therefore, in the whole “something’s gotta’ give” realm, what I decided “had to give” is my ability to be consistent with my weekly videos and posts. Again, that’s not to say that I won’t be doing them at all. I just won’t be doing them on an every-week basis. But I will still be doing videos, and I will still be writing. It’s just that a lot of those things will be published in one of the other places that I have mentioned above.

Let me close by saying “Thanks” to all of you for being in our community. I hope you’re as excited about checking out the new projects that I have coming out as I am about bringing them to you. I would love to hear your feedback on any of it. Please email me at [email protected] if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions.
